Today is Groundhog Day.
As an interested party, we from this blog celebrate this beautiful tradition, imported to North America from Central Europe, where it does not exist any more, and we are curious about what do Phil and the others predict for this year: are we going to have an early spring or do we still have to go through six more weeks of winter?

My grandfather always told us that spring wins over winter 4 weeks after you have seen the first snowdrop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galanthus). He would be 130 years old now. It has been almost every year true.
Gitta, what a wonderful piece of wisdom that you got from your grandfather! I like people like you, like your grandfather, who are sensitive enough to observe Nature and her rhythms, because they can understand how things work and what is the role that we have to play.
